Rhoda Agilinko’s journey to improving Basic Education in Ghana

Rhoda Agilinko and basic education in Ghana

How Rhoda Agilinko’s education journey in Ghana began

Our CEO, Rhoda Agilinko, founded Homeland Ghana Educational Foundation after returning to her hometown in Ghana’s Upper East Region in 2017. What she encountered there,  schools operating with limited facilities and resources, shaped the direction of the organisation from the very beginning.

Responding to challenges in basic education in Ghana

What began as an effort to support a single school has since grown into work alongside more than 30 basic schools across the region, reaching thousands of children.

The organisation’s approach has remained practical and grounded, focusing on:

  • Access to textbooks and learning materials
  • School uniforms and essential supplies
  • Menstrual health support through sanitary pad distribution
  • Creating safer and more supportive learning environments

These interventions are designed to ensure children can engage fully in learning and develop confidence within the classroom.

Over time, Homeland Ghana’s work has expanded through consistent partnerships with schools, educators, families, and local communities.

This growth reflects a commitment to addressing educational challenges through solutions shaped by the realities children experience every day.

Peace First’s feature on Rhoda Agilinko and Homeland Ghana

Recently, Rhoda’s journey and the work of Homeland Ghana Educational Foundation were featured by Peace First, highlighting the communities involved, the initiatives underway, and the values that continue to guide the organisation’s approach to education.

Reflecting on the feature, Rhoda shared:

“I’m humbled that this story is reaching such a wide audience. It reinforces that many of us care about improving basic education together.”

The feature offers a broader look at how consistent, school interventions can shape educational experiences over time.

Looking ahead for education in Ghana

As the organisation continues to grow, its focus remains clear: helping ensure every child has the opportunity to learn in an environment that supports confidence, participation, and progress.
