Marisha’s Story

Homeland Ghana staff member with Marisha Chuawari, Basic One teacher and Homeland Coordinator at Kori Primary School in Ghana

“The students now come to school and mingle with their friends. They don’t feel shy anymore.”

My name is Marisha, and I am the Homeland Coordinator for Kori Primary School. I teach Basic One and have been teaching for the past 10 years. What I enjoy most about teaching is when my students answer my questions correctly.

Before Homeland Ghana came to our school, some students did not have school uniforms. They felt shy about coming to school and found it difficult to communicate with their classmates.

Homeland Ghana provided school uniforms, and now these students come to school, spend time with their friends and take part in class with more confidence. They do not feel as shy anymore.

Homeland Ghana also gave us stationery, including exercise books, pencils, pens and other learning materials. I appreciate this support because sometimes we give students exercises, but they have nothing to write with or write on. Now they can complete their work and take part in lessons.

There are many families in this area who cannot afford everything their children need for school. Most of them are farmers who work to provide for their families. Homeland Ghana has come at the right time to support these children and their families.

All the support we have received has made a difference, but the writing materials have helped the children a lot. The school uniforms have also made a big difference because when children’s uniforms are torn, they often feel embarrassed and do not want to come to school.

Now the children come to school, complete their exercises and participate more confidently in class.

The overall impact of Homeland Ghana has been very positive. Their support has come at the right time, helping children learn, grow and build a brighter future.
