Homeland Ghana school support is helping children overcome barriers to education across the Builsa North District. In this testimonial, Marisha Chuawari, a Basic One teacher and Homeland Coordinator at Kori Primary School, explains how school uniforms and learning materials have improved attendance, confidence and classroom participation for her students.

My name is Marisha Chuawari, and I am the Homeland Coordinator for Kori Primary School.

I teach Basic One, to be precise, and I have been teaching for the past 10 years.

What I enjoy most about teaching is when I teach my students and they answer my questions very well.

Restoring Children’s Confidence

Before Homeland Ghana came to this school, some of our students were not wearing school uniforms.

They were feeling shy to come to school and could not communicate with their classmates.

However, Homeland Ghana came in to provide school uniforms, and because of this, the students now come to school, mingle with their friends and participate with confidence.

They don’t feel shy anymore.

Providing the Tools to Learn

Apart from the school uniforms, Homeland Ghana also gave us stationery. They provided exercise books, pencils, pens and other learning materials.

I appreciate it a lot because sometimes you give the students exercises, but they don’t have anything to write on.

No pencil. No exercise book.

Now they are able to complete their work and participate fully in lessons.

Supporting Families Who Need It Most

In this area, there are many underprivileged families.

Most of them are farmers. They farm simply to provide for their families and cannot always afford everything their children need for school. Because of this, Homeland Ghana has come at the right time to support both the children and their families.

Among all the support we have received, every gift has made a difference. However, the writing materials have helped the children tremendously.

The school uniforms have also made a significant impact because when uniforms are torn, many children feel embarrassed and do not want to attend school.

Today, they come to school, complete their exercises and participate confidently in class.

Looking to the Future

The overall impact of Homeland Ghana has been very positive. They have come at the right time to support children while they are still young, giving them the opportunity to grow, learn and build a brighter future.
