Joshua, Class of 2019 / University of Professional Studies

Before Homeland Ghana Foundation’s support, my school and community faced several challenges that affected learning. We did not have a school library, students preparing for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) had limited access to extra classes, and many girls struggled to manage their menstrual hygiene due to a lack of sanitary pads. School dropout and teenage pregnancy were also challenges within the community.

Homeland Ghana Foundation addressed many of these needs by establishing a library, organising extra classes, providing sanitary pads for girls, and implementing programmes that helped improve educational outcomes. Their support, together with the educational materials they provided, positively shaped my academic journey and motivated me to pursue higher education. Today, I am a student at the University of Professional Studies, Accra.

One of my most memorable experiences was participating in Homeland Ghana’s Child Rights and Wellbeing initiatives. Through these programmes, I learned about health and wellbeing, child safeguarding, and the importance of education. I also remember the first time the Homeland Ghana team visited our school and assured us they would help address some of our challenges.

‘’Another unforgettable moment was when they visited us again during Senior High School to encourage us ahead of our final examinations and provide educational materials. Their words of encouragement and continued support gave us confidence and made us feel valued’’.

The impact of Homeland Ghana extends beyond my own education. Seeing their commitment to improving our community inspired me to become someone who also gives back. They became role models to many of us, encouraging us to work hard, pursue higher education, and contribute positively to our communities. Their continued support, including providing learning resources and training teachers, has shown me the importance of investing in education for lasting change.

I am sincerely grateful to Homeland Ghana Foundation for believing in me and investing in my future. Their support has helped shape the person I am today and inspired me to become a community advocate who is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of others.
